Xiao (b. 2000) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the interaction between technological extrapolation and personal emotional experiences, suggesting possibilities for integrating technology and design with the human body. Xiao employs a futuring approach to speculate on how emotions and experiences evolve over time, transforming these evolutions into narrative designs, installations, crafts, and graphic design.

 EmoDigest (2024)

    * Individual Project
      EmoDigest envisions a future overwhelmed by an explosion of information, where individuals face excessive pressure. By using an external "emotional digestion system," people can process and digest daily information, transforming it into visual emotional entropy that reflects their work patterns and behavioral habits. Depending on the structure of EmoDigest, individuals can adjust their work routines and find balance between work and rest. EmoDigest offers a tangible, visual method for users to manage and understand their daily information intake and emotional well-being.

    Neo-Digestive System (2024)

    * Individual Project
    • Fueled by human activity, the Climate Crisis poses significant challenges to humans and all life. But what if we could redesign our bodies to adapt?

      In a future polluted with microplastics, the Neo-Digestive System offers a solution. By genetically engineering vulture genes, BioOrgan R&D Solutions creates a new digestive system capable of processing contaminated food directly. This project proposes body modifications to confront the climate crisis, highlighting environmental urgency and the potential of bioengineering for proactive evolution.

      Exhibited : ‘Future Worlds : Attunements’ — Group Exhibition. London. 2024.

    Respond to AI (2024)

    * Collaborated with Shang Ding
      This project explores the integration of AI technology with narrative psychology principles, encouraging audiences to re-create their own stories. AI acts as an impartial 'listener' and 'analyst,' prompting viewers to re-examine traumatic experiences from new perspectives. By combining sound art and interactive visuals, the project aims to offer audiences a sense of discovery, strength, and hope through the narrative.

    Incidental 36: Three Dreams (Orient, Incident, Rachel)
    (2023)

    * Collaborated with Chang Liu
    • Incidental 36: Three Dreams (Orient, Incident, Rachel) is a collaborative animation that narrates the story of an unforeseen event in the universe. A butterfly flutters its wings and gently lands on a crystal ball, setting off an unexpected explosion across the cosmos... When astronaut Rachel awakens, she discovers that she was merely part of the butterfly’s dream... Through this project, we seek to explore and articulate the fluidity and uncertainty of dreams and personal perception, as well as the role music plays in shaping these experiences.

    Pesona Card (2022)

    * Individual Project
      Sometimes, people crave one-way social interaction, but most existing social platforms are designed for two-way communication. In this project, I propose a new approach to socialization by segmenting our daily social needs and introducing the concept of one-way socialization through emotional reading. I’ve designed a unique application that enables users to engage in one-way social interactions by using persona cards created from others' profiles or by authorizing the emotional data they share on social media to generate persona cards that can be shared with others.

    Love Ingestion (2022)

    * Individual Project
    • Feeling loved and accepted is one of our most fundamental emotions. We express and absorb love through our words and bodies, and this exchange is crucial to our well-being. In this project, inspired by childhood memories of closeness with my mother, I explored our need for love and its expression as the foundation for designing a set of tableware that embodies the concept of "ingesting" love.

    Social Suicide (2022)

    * Collaborated with Chundi Zhang, JiaTong Zhang, Ying Liu
    • One day, a tragic event befalls the protagonist, triggered by an accident he unintentionally caused—his undignified vegetable-strewn teeth are exposed, and he becomes the subject of ridicule... This gossip shatters his social persona, leading to a devastating social suicide. My partners and I have created the SOCIAL SUICIDE DEVICE, which portrays the main character’s social downfall through a blend of electronic screens and sounds that interact with virtual representations of the internet crowd. This project aims to critique the grotesquely distorted nature of online culture and the narrow-mindedness prevalent among internet masses.

    Together (2020)

    * Individual Project
      Post-COVID, long-distance relationships—whether in love or friendship—face heightened challenges from physical separation. Emotional strain, like loneliness and frustration, builds over time, making communication harder, especially during conflicts.

      TOGETHER addresses this by offering a multi-sensory experience through a virtual platform and a physical device, "Toto." It enables real-time emotional updates, helping partners bridge the gap and stay connected across distances.
